Salad in a Jar - Best Way to Pack Lunch!

We've all seen the cookies-in-a-jar and bread-in-a-jar, but these salads in a jar are just genius. And cute. Sooo cute. It's got to be the best way to take your lunch to work. Grab and go has a new definition with these functional gems. Plastic has it's place, but there's something so innovative about using a mason jar. Why you ask? They are obviously cute. If this isn't reason enough, the jars are BPA free, won't stain, travel well, won't leak, and are microwavable/dishwasher safe. Convinced yet??




I used a generic dressing of 1 tablespoon olive oil, ~3 tablespoons red wine vinegar, garlic salt, and several grinds of my favorite peppercorn medley. It's simple enough to highlight the veggies, but realistically the dressing could get as fancy or as simple as you wanted. I highly suggest pouring the dressing over the bottom ingredient of two. The vegetables (or beans) turn into marinated loves. Or give the bottle a good shake before eating. If you want to bring the dressing on the side, you'll still be counting down until lunchtime. 


There are a few tricks to make your salad in a jar a success:
1. Put the heaviest and wet ingredients at the bottom, including dressing.

2. Keep in mind the greens should take up the most space.
3. Save the beautiful ingredients for the top, making lunch time even more blissful.
4. As with any award salad, use a variety of colors and textures for a palate punch.
5. Include nuts, seeds, beans, or other source of protein.
6. Get creative...there is not a wrong salad!
